1 Timothy 2:7
7Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
Comment: In a personal letter to Timothy, Paul is emphatic about his being specifically chosen by God, through an encounter with the resurrected Jesus, to bring his message of forgiveness of sins to the Gentiles. Since Paul was writing to a close personal companion, here was an opportunity to talk openly about doubts about his work and his true motives. Instead he just reiterates what he has consistently said throughout his ministry to the churches in his other letters [cf. 1 Corinthians 1:1, 2 Corinthians 1:1, Galatians 1:11-2:10, Ephesians 1:1,24,25] and what others recorded as his claims [Acts 13, 22, 26]. Consistency in saying the same things, both publicly and privately, underpins true statements.
